Sedation
General Anesthesia
As much as we wish it wasn’t the case, we realize that some people feel terribly anxious or fearful about visiting the dentist. If this describes you—or if you simply have a lot of dental work you need to be done at one time—you may want to learn more about sedation dentistry or “sleep dentistry” which is performed under general anesthesia. Depending on your specific concerns and needs, Pearl Dental Care may recommend an oral sedative, or IV (intravenous) sedation, both of which are safe and effective.
Oral Conscious Sedation
For dentistry performed under oral sedation, Pearl Dental Care will prescribe an oral sedative for you to take prior to your appointment, so you’ll be feeling relaxed by the time you sit down in the exam room. We may also provide you with laughing gas—or nitrous oxide—during your appointment as a way to enhance the calming effects of the oral sedative. As with any time you are in our office, we’ll ensure that you’re feeling comfortable the entire time, and will monitor your vital signs so we can make adjustments as necessary.
